Twenty years of dedication to sport and health have led Premax to be a global industry leader.  Specializing in skincare products, they are today the choice for many sports professionals and pro teams around the world. In collaboration with Madison, their UK distributor, Premax decided to create and launch a product bundle dedicated to both professionals and amateur sports travelers for the UK market, as a test.

The project reached the marketing team, and I was assigned to curate the art direction and design. From the brief I received from the Marketing Director, I learned the packaging had to be capable of grouping the products contained together under a common purpose, to be used as a tool to motivate and engage consumers towards purchasing.

Most sports packaging we find on shelves today, seems to rely on the same old marketing recipe. A bit of branding, a good sprinkle of the minimalistic look and few technical aspects highlighted to position that particular product within a selected market.

But sometimes the packaging needs some more help than a logo surrounded by the correct color scheme and a catchy line. In busy sports shops, self-service is often the quickest solution for the grab and go client category. As a result, more often than not, the packaging needs to close the sale on the brand’s behalf.

COLOR PALETTE

The main colors white and blue, are coming from Premax brand guidelines.
Pink and Cyan instead are distinctives colors Premax is using to help recognize the Anti Friction Cream for mens and womens.
We used the same product to differentiate the bundle for mens and womens, so it was easy enough to use the same colour system.

TYPOGRAPHY

Typography is an integral part of this packaging layout, supporting the whole composition to be seen and be attractive to sportspeople.

For the front and all the sides of the box, I chose a condensed sans serif typeface because with the correct sizing it could be seen from a long distance while having that sort of attractive modern and sportive look. For the rear, where all descriptions are placed, my choice went for a relaxed sans serif typeface, more readable even at a very small size.

To create a sense of connection between consumers and their favorite sports disciplines, I used a well-crafted combination of action pictures highlighting the main sports connected to the product bundle: running, cycling, and swimming.

DELIVERING INFORMATION

Pharmaceutical products are subject by law to particular rules when it comes to the information they must provide. Ingredients, how to use instructions, recycling methods, and so many other aspects must be declared within the packaging or leaflet. I identified the bottom of the box as the perfect area to accommodate all the info.

The Ultimate Travel Pack was introduced during iceBike* 2019 the annual in-house trade show held by Madison Cycles. The packaging solution attracted curiosity and many inquiries from dealers, which is an excellent start to pave the road to success that this product bundle deserves.
